I WAS extremely pleased to see Anglesey Aluminium bosses announce that they are submitting a scoping opinion application to build a renewable energy plant on the site.
This shows the commitment that David Bloor and his team have to fighting for jobs on Ynys Môn. They are doing their best to fulfil their side of the bargain; the rest is up to the Government and the National Grid.
Securing an interim power deal is essential to the future of hundreds of jobs and the man who can broker that deal is Lord Mandleson, the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
I urge Paul Murphy and Albert Owen to redouble their efforts to convince Lord Mandleson of the need to facilitate a short term agreement that will provide energy for Anglesey Aluminium until alternative power sources are found. Strong rhetoric has been uttered by our MP over the past few months. It’s now time for strong and swift action.
