Rugby Union: Bethesda win despite late change

WREXHAM 10 BETHESDA 20

Bethesda travelled to Wrexham on Saturday having to make late changes due to Rygbi Gogledd Cymru drafting Mathew Parry into their squad.

The incident did not go down well with Pesda coach Will Sanderson because there was no allegedly no communication with the club about his release.

Flanker Iwan Williams was moved to the wing and it was he who produced the first try for the visitors.

Hooker Steven Eames claimed the second away try when after a steal in the line out he gathered the loose ball to claim a touchdown.

Bethesda knew they had to glean a bonus point to keep pressure on Bala for top spot and easy penalty attempts were ignored to push for four tries.

Following a 20-minute delay for a head injury to a Wrexham player in the second half, Pesda resumed with an excellent try by flanker Arwyn Griffiths.

The hosts rallied with a converted try and penalty to make it 15-10, but following a spell of pressure Bethesda grabbed the all-important fourth try through top scorer Dylan Hughes.

Bethesda host Caernarfon on Friday in the North Wales Cup second round first leg (7pm) and on February 20 play Newport area club Bettws in the last 16 of the Swalec Bowl.
