Football: Bangor City FC set to sign Craig Garside

MIDFIELDER Craig Garside is set to be reunited with former boss Neville Powell at Bangor City.

Garside, 24, has been training with the Farrar Road club and could prove quite an asset for City’s forthcoming European ties.

"I had him at Connah’s Quay (2006-07) when I was manager there and he played probably the best football of his career during those 12 months," said Powell.

"We’re hoping he’ll sign this week; with his experience Craig will be a useful addition to the squad."

Garside is a former Everton apprentice who played alongside Wayne Rooney in the 2002 FA Youth Cup final.

He has captained Wales from Under-13 up to Under-19 level.

The Chester-born midfielder had Welsh Premier experience with Caernarfon Town and Connah’s Quay before joining Rhyl in 2007/08.

Garside scored in Rhyl’s 3-1 home leg victory over FC Haka of Finland in the UEFA Cup, but he was unable to command a regular place at Belle Vue in the ensuing season and had spells at Nomads and Colwyn Bay last season.

He is now set to join new signings Ashley Stott, Dave Morley and Mark Smyth at Farrar Road.

"We’ve got a good strong squad now with competition in every position," enthused manager Powell.
