Darts: Caernarfon darter wins Anglesey event

ALMOST 50 of North Wales’ finest dart players took part in the annual Peter Grant Memorial Trophy tournament at Wellmans Sports and Social Club, Llangefni on Saturday.

Paul Hankin (Caernarfon Town Football Social Club) took the £300 first prize plus the trophy after beating Clive Davies (Foelas) 4-2 in the best of seven legs final.

In the semis, Hankin saw off Stephen Roberts (Bangor BRI) 3-1, while Davies overpowered local man Colin Hedley by the same score.

Davies picked up the £150 runners-up prize, while last four qualifiers Roberts and Hedley received £50 apiece.

The winner’s shield was presented by Ceinwen Grant, wife of the late Peter Grant.

The next darting occasion at Wellmans is the county match between Gwynedd and Montgomery and Radnor on October 30-31.

LAST Monday saw the second heat of the John Smith’s People’s Champion 2009 tournament to be held in Holyhead staged at the Cambria.

Ricky Lewis (Angel) repeated his Cambria success of 12 months ago, defeating Simon Edwards (Skerries) 3-0 in the final and joins local Alan Mullin in qualifying for the regional heats at Caerphilly at the end of November.

Semi-final action saw Edwards see off Mike Hughes (Cambria) in the deciding leg, while Lewis’ superior finishing got him past Neil Davies (Ex- Service) who had the consolation of hitting a maximum 180.

Edwards was losing finalist for the second week running having been pipped in the Foresters a week earlier.
