Gus MacGregor as Buddy Holly.
TWO cast members from the West End’s Buddy have joined the smash hit touring musical stage show Rockin’ on Heaven’s Door, the show that brings together the music of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, The Big Bopper and Jerry Lee Lewis, where the music plays the leading role and Jerry Lee’s piano literally bursts into flames.
Gus MacGregor, who played Buddy for 10 years, and JS Rawlings now join the ever-evolving Rockin’ on Heaven’s Door, which, now in its 12th year, has sold over one million tickets across the UK and Europe and its popularity grows unabated, with more than 50 theatre dates added to the UK touring schedule.
Incorporating new acts and stunning lighting, Rockin’ on Heaven’s Door is a fast-paced rock extravaganza that hardly leaves time for the audience to catch its breath between performers, all backed by a high-calibre five piece band which brings to life the spirit of the rock ‘n’ roll era, reminding audiences at every turn why this music has stood the test of time; Jerry Lee (Darren Green) rips into Great Balls of Fire with passion and edginess, while Roy Orbison (Iain Sparkes) soars gracefully through his classic songs; The Big Bopper (J S Rawlings) demonstrates the sexual element that was such a large part of this music and Buddy Holly (Gus MacGregor) explodes onto stage like the first guitar- hero, with slick moves and engaging energy he powers through those wonderfully bright, optimistic songs of his.
The second part of the show opens with a concert within a concert; a reconstruction of Elvis’ 1972 tour, complete with Vegas jumpsuits, belts and rings, performed by ‘Europe’s Top Elvis’, the accomplished Richard Atkins, complete with the grace, humility, mannerisms and delivery of ‘The King’.
Rockin’ On Heaven’s Door is touring the UK and will be performing at the Rhyl Pavilion on Friday, November 27. To book tickets, contact the Box Office on 01745 330000.
