Mr Huw rounds off Galeri's bar sessions at Caernarfon

GALERI’S acoustic in the bar sessions will come to an end with a bang this Friday night when Mr Huw gives a special performance.

Chwilog musician, Huw Owen is bringing his band to Galeri for the unplugged show.

Mr Huw said: "It should be quite lively and enjoyable.

"We’ll end the acoustic sessions at Galeri with a good one. I don’t usually play acoustic sets unless I am on my own, so it will be nice to have a bit of a change for this gig to have the boys along too."

Mr Huw has been playing solo gigs across Wales for over three years and signed up to play with band mates two years ago. Their stripped back, festival-friendly songs have won the lads a growing following.

Mr Huw explained: "I’m not sure how I would describe our stuff, it’s a bit of everything as we are influenced by lots of different bands and solo artists.

"I don’t like anything that’s too mainstream or well polished and prefer musicians that don’t take it too seriously and make music for themselves rather than anyone else. I’m a massive Simple Kid and Adam Green/The Moldy Peaches fan. I love the Super Furries, although I don’t think that comes out in my music at all."

Mr Huw released his solo debut in Llond Lle o Hwrs a Lladron in 2007 which he recorded in Nant Peris. This was followed by the dark stories and happy melodies on Hud a Llefrith which he recorded with the band. He is currently in the middle of recording a third album.

Mr Huw said: "There is a strong music scene in North Wales with lots of bands but the problem is that there’s just not that many gigs. I can’t see any reason why the scene shouldn’t continue to grow.

When not playing himself, Huw runs music workshops for local schoolchildren. He said: "I go around different schools, getting the children to play instruments and write songs which we record and put on a CD for them to take home. It’s quite interesting and I never have two days the same. Some of the secondary school children come along to our gigs and have seen us at Eisteddfodau."
