THE current jazz concert season, which is being held at the Victoria Hotel, Menai Bridge is drawing to a close in the next few weeks.
On June 25, the highly acclaimed, Orli Nyles Quintet will have the honour of playing the last numbers of the season at the end of season jazz concert at Victoria Hotel. Menai Bridge. Orli a.k.a Laura Hassell is a very talented vocalist and pianist. She has past achievements such as becoming a finalist in the Perrier Awards 2000 and being a semi- finalist in the Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition. She released her most recent CD in 2007. The CD was called, If I.
Orli has been influenced by jazz favourites Betty Carter, Cassandra Wilson and Norma Winstone. These artists have helped her perfect her own unique vocal style.
Orli Nyles has played venues such as the renowned New York Iridium Jazz Club, most recently NY’s famed Greenwich Village, UK venues including Manchester’s Band on the Wall and Bridgewater Hall, London’s 606 Club and the Royal Northern College of Music. She has also turned her hand to teaching along side the prestigious Leanne Carroll at Glamorgan Jazz Summer School. Orli has also performed with Leanne and the singer Ian Shaw.
The Quintet are, Martin Yates (trumpeter) who has performed all over the world in places like Africa, Europe and USA, Dave Hassell (drums), Uli Elbracht (guitar) and Stevie Williams (bass guitar). They are extinguished musicians in their own right and have had high profile jazz careers.
