FOLLOWING the success of it’s predecessor, expectations were high at Anglesey’s second successive stand-up night held at the Morfa in Rhosneigr last Wednesday.
Hosted by native comedian Tudur Owen, alias PC Leslie Wynne, the gig drew in crowds of comedy lovers eager for an evening of fun filled entertainment.
Addressing the audience at the start of the evening, Owen said: "I travel around quite a bit doing this kind of thing and I try to drag as much of it back to Anglesey as I can.
"We don’t get much of this type of thing in Anglesey do we?.
"We’ve had some positive feedback from the last event and I can tell you, you’re in for a great night."
And it didn’t disappoint.
After regaling the crowd with a hilarious account of the failures of Anglesey’s first strip club, he handed the mike over to young comedian Dave Twentyman from St Helens.
Following some brief friendly banter with the audience, and dishing out a ribbing to yours truly for scribbling notes during his set, Twentyman entertained punters with amusing anecdotes from his stag-do, his delivery drawing immediate comparisons to Phoenix Nights star Patrick McGuiness.
With the crowd nicely warmed up, the stage was set for the next act Ste Porter from Merseyside, but not before Owen relinquished the mike for a few minutes to tell a side splitting account of his encounter with a jellyfish who stung his daughter on Rhosneigr beach.
Newcomer Porter’s gag-based set alternated between jokes on his home life in Liverpool and the drudgery of performing in Pwllheli, much to the appreciation of a baying crowd.
Top of the bill that night was fellow Merseyside comedian Nige, billed as "the man, the myth, the scally" who released a relentless barrage of jokes upon the now eager audience.
He even managed to fit in a comical tune dedicated to his ex girlfriend.
Judging by the glowing reviews from happy punters that I overheard at the bar at the end of night, the next comedy night looks set to become an even bigger success.
The only downside was having to nurse my sides the next morning after laughing so much.
The next comedy night will be held at Y Morfa on June 1, for more info visit www.ymorfa.co.uk
