A WORLD première will be performed alongside an evocation of the New World by Bangor University Symphony Orchestra in the Prichard-Jones Hall at the end of this month.
The concert, which takes place on Saturday, February 28, will open with the first performance of Polarities, a "concerto grosso for orchestra and electronics" by young Bangor composer Ed Wright.
The work combines the traditional sounds of a live symphony orchestra with specially-prepared electronic soundscapes, played into the hall in multi-channel surround sound.
The performance promises to be a unique and exciting event for music-lovers of all ages and backgrounds!
The concert also includes the stunningly beautiful Violin Concerto by Samuel Barber with young soloist Elizabeth Hirst, and concludes with a performance of one of the best-known works in the symphonic repertoire: Dvorák’s remarkable Ninth Symphony, From the New World.
Immediately before the concert, the composer Ed Wright will be discussing his work with the orchestra’s conductor and Bangor University lecturer, Chris Collins, in the Main Arts Lecture Theatre. The talk begins at 7pm, free admission.
Tickets are available from The Muse on Holyhead Road, Bangor, (01248) 362072, and for further details on the concert, go to www.bangor.ac.uk/musicatbangor
