Neuadd Dwyfor Pwllheli shows Anthony Newley Story

THE life and times of actor, singer, film star, composer and cultural icon Anthony Newley will be put under the spotlight in a musical biopic of his life next month.

What Kind of Fool am I? The Anthony Newley Story will hit the stage at Neuadd Dwyfor in Pwllheli on Thursday, November 6.

Newley’s career began as a child actor.

His best-known appearance during these early days was as the Artful Dodger in the 1948 film production of Oliver Twist.

His film-making career continued until he played the part of a pop star in the 1959 production of Idle On Parade.

The role of Newley will be performed by his biographer and friend Garth Bardsley (of Phantom of the Opera fame).

He will be joined on stage by jazz pianist Sandra Lambert, who was most recently seen on the sell-out tour with Helen Shapiro.

Together, they aim to recapture the glamour and sophistication of the Las Vegas cabaret lounge era, which Newley made so much his own.
