A CONTROVERSIAL planning application to build three luxurious £400,000 seaside townhouses – planned to be second homes – will be built in Rhosneigr.
Cheshire-based developers Russell Homes won an appeal against Anglesey County Council after councillors on the planning committee rejected the plans several times over the last year.
The townhouses will sit alongside nine apartments overlooking Rhosneigr Bay.
Locals in the village were against the plans and believe that any more development in the village should be for local need only.
Andrew Russell, managing director for Russell Homes, is pleased the Waterfront scheme now has formal approval and believes the development fills gap in the local market.
He said: “There is simply nothing like this in Rhosneigr and the stunning location is matched only by the unique architecture.
“The Waterfront is situated in a fantastic position on the beach, with access via a private road and slipway, offering buyers a great investment for the future.
“The design of The Waterfront is a contemporary interpretation of the typical architecture of the local area.
“Windows on the Station Road and side elevations echo the characteristic form of houses in the village.
“However, it is on the beach side that The Waterfront truly comes into its own with large glazed panels flooding the living areas with light and framing the incredible views.
“The townhouses will complete an elegant coastal development which also comprises nine contemporary apartments.”
“Aimed at the second home market, the modern architecture and chic interior finishes planned for The Waterfront are expected to draw interest from buyers in Cheshire and Manchester who are keen to purchase in the popular holiday hotspot.”
Local county councillor Phil Fowlie expressed concern at the size of the development.
He said: “The major concern is that it’s out of character. There’s no other major development of this type throughout Anglesey let alone Rhosneigr.”
One Rhosneigr resident said: “If anything is to be built here it should be for locals not millionaires from Cheshire.
“This is a travesty for democracy. The planning committee made their decision. These developers should not be allowed to appeal like this.”
