Glanrafon Hill
TWO men have been arrested in connection with a vicious assault in Bangor city centre last week.
The 18 and 20-year-old men who are from the Penmachno area, were both arrested on suspicion of assault in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A 21-year-old man is still in a critical condition after the attack outside the Time nightclub on Glanrafon Hill.
His head injuries are so severe that he has been transferred to Walton Hospital in Liverpool.
The incident happened just after 2.30am on Tuesday, June 9.
The arrests came less than a day after police released CCTV images of the attacker, who officers believe was part of a gang.
The images show a man getting into a dark coloured vehicle, possibly a Peugeot 306, which was parked on Glanrafon Hill.
The car, which officers believe was being driven by a woman, then drove off and turned right onto Deiniol Road.
A North Wales Police spokeswoman said the victim’s condition deteriorated after he was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd and his condition is now described as critical.
District Inspector Richard Green said he was keen the public shouldn’t be alarmed by this "rare" incident.
"I would say this is the first time there has been an attack on an individual by a gang since I’ve been the inspector in Bangor," he said.
"We believe there was an altercation inside the club which was started again outside when they left the premises.
"This incident has taken place while we are continuing our high-visibility operation around pubs and nightclubs in the area, which we feel has been a success.
"I would again like to reassure the public that this sort of incident is extremely rare in Bangor and continues to be one of the safest places in Wales.
"We hope the 21-year-old man makes a recovery as we continue with our enquiries into the incident."
