THE return of Bangor Carnival is a step closer following the latest meeting of a community group set up to try and improve facilities in the city.
Members of The People of Bangor Community Group are keen to restart the event from next summer and want members of the public to come forward to help with the carnival, which it is hoped will "put smiles on the faces of people in Bangor again".
The group was started following the setting up of a group on social networking site Facebook and the latest meeting took place on June 3.
Chairman Nigel Pickavance said: "Bangor has nothing with regards to community annual events whereby everyone gathers together for one big day to celebrate this special city and to give our children something special to remember and memories to pass onto their children and grandchildren.
"Next summer we are hoping to bring the Bangor Carnival back and with an event of this size it is essential that we get the help of as many Bangor people as possible.
"We want people to do something special for their kids next summer and beyond, by getting involved and helping the Bangor Carnival group in any little way possible.
"A little help is better than none so we appreciate any help the public can offer."
The group will place the carnival at the top of the agenda for their next meeting which will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at the Menai Hotel, starting at 7pm.
"We would really appreciate any input and advice and we are hoping that as many groups and clubs as possible will become involved and we are looking into contacting both Bangor City Council and Gwynedd Council regarding helping with funding," said Nigel.
"We are also looking out for a possible sponsor of the carnival and any businesses who would like to consider being the main sponsor should get in touch on the number below.
"We have some ideas to raise funds for the carnival and one is to place collection boxes around the city’s pubs and shops."
Another way of raising funds for the carnival which the group is considering is to do regular car boot sales.
"If anyone has any items they are considering disposing of, we ask them to please consider donating them to the community group for us to sell in the boot sales," added Nigel.
"We will need as many volunteers as possible to make this carnival a success so if anyone can spare an hour or two then please get in touch."
