Fishermen claim to have spotted 'puma' on Anglesey

Puma

FISHERMEN claim that a wild cat is on the loose somewhere between Moelfre and Amlwch.

Last week the Mail received reports from visitors to the area that a large black cat, possibly a puma had been seen near Lligwy Beach on Thursday January 31.

Garon Bent from Ashton under Lyne near Oldham said: "Myself and my son were here to do some fishing.

"There are two car parks at Lligwy, this was the furthest one and we had walked left up the footpath, to our left were some fenced in sheep with a big area of rough.

"About 100 yards ahead we saw what I have no doubt was a puma.

"It was just a bit bigger than a Labrador dog, I knew it was a puma from the tail.

"It just sauntered off into the undergrowth, it looked in good nick, must have been eating well.

"Visibility was excellent it was bitterly cold.

"I did have a camera but it had disappeared before I could get off a snap."

Ruth Williams from Anglesey’s RSPCA branch which deals with feral cats, said: "I’ve not heard of anything.

"It would be very difficult to confuse a puma with a feral cat because there is very little difference in size between a feral and domestic cat, it’s just that they were born in the wild."

A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We have not received any calls or reports from the public about a big cat on the loose in this area."
