PLANS to build 139 homes, including affordable housing, and a 50 unit extra care facility in Llangefni are due to come under the spotlight.
Property developers St Malo revealed that their plans for Ty’n Coed, off Talwrn Road, should be dealt with by the planning authority soon.
St Malo submitted their original planning application to build 180 homes and the extra care facility in January 2007.
However, concerns from local residents led the company to revise their plans, cutting down the homes to 139.
For St Malo managing director, Glyn Pritchard-Jones, the cherry on top of the development cake is the extra care development.
He said: “For elderly citizens who can no longer cope with living alone and require a watchful eye, extra care with an on-site manager provides the ideal solution, negating the need to consider a nursing home option.
“The proposal includes a cafeteria on the ground floor, a laundry facility, hairdresser and general provisions retailer. It would be owned and operated by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association.”
Mr Pritchard-Jones explained that a deal had been agreed with Anglesey Council to secure 30% affordable housing, either onsite or with a partial off-site option.
He said: “Given that we already have 0.7 acres of land with housing consent next to ASDA in Llangefni town centre the opportunity exists to deliver an immediate 36 units at this location.
“Anglesey Council’s housing department has 3,000 people registered as ‘in need of accommodation’ in an island population of 66,000.”
A spokesman for Anglesey County Council said: “It’s possible this application will go before our planning committee in October.”
